Logo Design
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is a congregation of roughly 200 households affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. They strive to welcome all children of God, transforming each with ministry opportunities to deepen and share faith in order that we might serve Christ together in all the events of our daily lives. As a church member I regularly help with various graphic needs on a volunteer basis.
In 2021 Holy Trinity decided it was time to update their logo to better reflect the vibrant nature of the church. The previous logo featured a trinity graphic to emphasis the church’s name, but the colors were muted and the font had become outdated.
My inspiration for the new logo came from the most visually-striking feature of the church – an enormous piece of multi-colored artwork that adorns the east wall in the sanctuary. This is the first thing people see when they walk in, and it is an easily identifiable feature for visiting guests and prospective members. So it made sense to make this a part of the church’s official branding.
The new logo features three groups of color blocks as a reference to the Holy Trinity. The colors were taken from the east wall artwork and the logo is designed to reflect the multi-faceted glass construction of the piece. A cross is formed by the negative space in the middle and new fonts were chosen to portray a modern sense of strength and reliability.
Holy Trinity’s new branding was met with overwhelming positivity and it was put to use immediately. Personally, I found it very rewarding to be able to use my skills and experience to help my church craft this new identity.
