Signage Design

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is a congregation of 200 households affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. They strive to welcome all children of God, transforming each with ministry opportunities to deepen and share faith in order that we might serve Christ together in all the events of our daily lives. As a member of the Communications Committee at the church I occasionally help out with various signage and other graphics as needed.

In 2015 Holy Trinity began a long-term fundraising campaign to improve a few areas of the building. In order to keep the congregation aware of the fundraising progress, I offered to create a couple table-top signs to display in the main open area. We update these regularly as new donations arrive, and people find it helpful to know how close we are getting to our goals.

The middle sign displays a graphic that was part of a “Called to Wholeness” campaign. The goal was to show how the various aspects of a person’s life are interconnected, and how the church can serve as a hub to support each of those areas. This graphic was printed on cards and placed in every hymnal throughout the church. We initiated the campaign in 2014 and the cards are still in-use today.

Earlier in 2017 we decided that the church would benefit from a “You Are Here” style wall map mounted in a public area. The map itself may not look like much but I actually had fun creating it. I began with a Google Earth aerial shot of the church to get the main outline of the building, and then I started drafting the larger spaces by memory. Once that was done, I physically walked around the church to map out any incomplete areas. The final poster-sized map hangs in the main gathering space to help visitors find the office, nursery, restrooms, and other areas.
